Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday night’s 12-3 doubleheader finale loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Marte was originally slated to bat third and play second base, but wasn’t able to go due to a left hand injury that he sustained in his final at-bat in Game 1, D-backs manager Torey Lovullo told reporters postgame.

“He’s got a little left hand discomfort. It’s very common for hitters,” Lovullo said. “He’s just day-to-day for right now. He was in the lineup and was trying to gut it out and play and get ready, but he and the medical team decided it was just a little too much right now.”

The manager added that when he spoke with Marte, the Dominican tried to play but ultimately said he couldn’t grip the bat and it was just uncomfortable.

Marte had two hits and two RBIs off the bench in the first game of the doubleheader — a 7-6 loss for the D-backs.

The Diamondbacks also announced a pair of roster moves on Tuesday.

Right-handed pitcher Kenyan Middleton has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation.

In a corresponding move, the team also recalled RHP Edwin Uceta from the taxi squad.

Middleton has made six appearances thus far in his first season in a Diamondback uniform.

In that span, the reliever has pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out five.

Uceta had a rough outing in his return on Tuesday night, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 3.0 innings pitched.
