Photo Gallery: WSU athletics home weekend extravaganza

There was a lot going on around Pullman the last few days, and we were there to document it.

PULLMAN, WA - OCTOBER 22: Washington State volleyball faces off against 15th ranked Stanford, falling in a decisive fifth set in Bohler Gymnasium Jack Ellis/CougCenter

If you thought that football was the only athletics event in Pullman this weekend, you would be sorely mistaken. Soccer, volleyball, and women’s basketball were all in action, and CougCenter was there covering it all.

Thursday - Women’s soccer versus #5 USC

The most highly-anticipated game of the season for women’s soccer did not disappoint, as WSU and #5 USC went head-to-head for 90 minutes plus overtime. While the game resulted in a 0-0 draw, the Cougars controlled the pace of play against the Trojans who lead the league in goals scored this season.

Friday - Volleyball versus #15 Stanford

Cougar volleyball, fresh off of a 4-game win streak on the road against the Arizona and Oregon schools, returned to Bohler Gymnasium for the first time in three weeks to face off against #15 Stanford. The matchup was competitive all the way to the fifth set, where WSU ultimately fell to the Cardinal 3-2.

Sunday - Volleyball versus Cal

Just two days later, volleyball got back in the win column with a 3-0 sweep of the California Golden Bears. At 13-7 overall and 7-3 in conference play, the Cougars are currently tied for third place in the Pac 12 with a matchup against first place UCLA this Friday in Los Angeles.

Sunday - Women’s basketball exhibition match versus Saint Martin’s

If 2020-21 was any indication of the trajectory of the WSU women’s basketball program, then 2021-22 could see Kamie Ethridge and Co. reach heights never before seen in Cougar history. While this exhibition match won’t count towards the team’s record, an 89-38 blowout of Saint Martin’s showed that these girls can ball.

Sunday - Women’s soccer versus #8 UCLA

Senior night at Lower Soccer Field was emotional on a multitude of levels. Eight graduating seniors and super-seniors that were instrumental in taking WSU soccer to it’s first ever College Cup in 2019 played the final home match of their illustrious careers. This time against #8 UCLA, the Cougars had a similar result to that of USC, ending in a 1-1 draw that proved this squad can compete against the best-of-the-best.
