According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport the Arizona Cardinals have completed a trade for veteran tight end Zach Ertz for 2021 6th round cornerback Tay Gowan.

This trade works for both sides as the Cardinals had a void to fill after Max Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury versus the 49ers. The Eagles need a young talented corner and reportedly were high on Gowan.

A part of a struggling Eagles offense, Ertz walks into one of the league’s more efficient offenses. Ertz is not the player he once was years ago, but he is more than capable to win underneath coverage.

Factor in the spacing Kliff’s offense creates, he will have ample room to roam between the hashes. Ertz is a more than capable route runner against linebackers and some safeties. He adds another weapon for Kyler Murray in the redzone. As he did for Hurts last night versus the Buccaneers.

Max Williams was a phenomenal blocker and those will be huge shoes for Ertz to fill. Along with the chemistry Williams and Murray developed. It will take time. Zach Ertz can operate and assume the role as Murray’s safety net.

Through six games with the Eagles, he was targeted 31 times with 18 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns. he is averaging 5.2 targets per game. Murray averages 33 passing attempt per game this season. Kingsbury and Murray will find ways to properly insert Ertz into this offense.

Needless to say, this is a fun development for the Cardinals offense. A trade that was rumored this past off-season. Finally comes to fruition. This is a low risk, high reward type of decision. Steve Keim reloaded well after a sizeable loss due to injury.

Zach Ertz is not eligible to play this Sunday after playing last night. This will be fun to watch unfold in the desert.
