Leeds attacker Raphinha has quietly become one of the standout performers among the mid-table sides since arriving in the Premier League in the 2020-21 season.

The Brazilian has built on a strong debut campaign with three goals in seven games for the West Yorkshire club so far this term, with his tricky wing play earning him admirers around the league.

Liverpool are said to be one of those admirers, with the player’s agent confirming recently that Reds went as far as making inquiries into signing him. Alas, none of the transfer rumors came to pass over the summer, something Liverpool’s Fabinho regrets:

“For Liverpool, I was hoping that would happen,” Fabinho said, speaking recently with Brazilian outlet UOL regarding the links between Raphinha and Anfield. “But in the end, he stayed with Leeds.”

“He’s Leeds‘ best player today. Whenever we play against them, we know he’s the player who can cause the most danger.”

The left-footed attacker provided two assists on his debut for the Brazilian national side in a recent 3-1 win over Venezuela, and is set to start against Uruguay with Fabinho on Friday.

“The characteristic he has is very unique, of a left-footed player who pushes up and can go both ways, in and out,” Fabinho continued regarding his compatriot.

“This is very important for the national team. He is a guy who has a lot of personality, and has already proven that it can help us a lot.”

Reds fans will hope that this is the beginning of a campaign to woo highly talented player to Anfield and continue to build on what is a solid Brazilian contingent in the squad.
