Roker Riches 2021-22: All of our pundits are backing a Sunderland win on Saturday!

After a couple of good cup wins, the wise bets may be on Sunderland getting back to winning ways at Gillingham. What do the Riches lads fancy this weekend?

Welcome to another edition of Roker Riches, as we look forward to the away trip to Gillingham, after what feels like a really long break from league action.

The lads have done very well reinstating winning habits against Lincoln and Man Utd under 21’s either side of the international break, but the main aim of the season is back now. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways against our league opponents too, starting with this away tie.

The two sides are quite a way apart in the existing league table, with Gillingham sitting 19th on 11 points, half of the points the lads have up in joint 3rd, with 22. In terms of form, Gillingham have lost 3 of their last 4 home games, drawing the other, and shipping 9 goals in the process. That means it is arguably a great time to play them, though Sunderland have a habit of making hard work of teams experiencing a dip in form.

The Roker Riches table...

No wins for the Riches lads two weeks ago. The surprise result at Fratton Park put paid to all the Sunderland bets, and though several got close with non-Sunderland bets (EG Malc missed out on a £140 win due to Man Utd drawing 1-1), the table only features losers for the first time in a while.

Changes in the pecking order are mainly down to the size of bets and the yellow cards, which were dished out to several of the lads after they lost focus while the league wasn’t being played.

Gair was bottom till the cards were doled out. Malc keeps a 50 quid buffer, eased by a yellow for Danny too.

Banker’s Bonus...

This week's bonus earner is down to the thing that makes everything better - goals.

If SAFC score 2 or more goals this weekend they will likely win, as Gillingham very rarely score more than one based on this season's form.

If the lads score 2 or more, the Riches lads will be fed and watered with an extra tenner for the following match.

This round’s bets...

Anthony Gair says...

Sunderland to score 3 or more goals (11/4).

Really fancy us to give them a pasting to cement our place at the top. £10 returns £37.50

Bet Builder

Sunderland to win, BTTS, Over 10 corners in the match. At 8/1, £10 returns £90

Luke ‘Bomber’ Davies says...

Sunderland Bet Builder

I think the furore around away form is based on a myth, having beaten Blackpool, Wigan and Lincoln away this season.

With that I’m fully expecting a bounce back, with Embo delighting in his new contract by getting on the scoresheet also!

- Sunderland Win, Over 1.5 Goals, Embleton Anytime Scorer. £5 returns £31.37

Time to come good

A treble for you for the weekend… Three away teams to win, three teams who really need to kick start their season. They started to look good before the international break, now it’s time for them to kick on...

Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Ipswich all to win. £5 returns £72.45

Phil Butler says...

Neil to score and win.

I fancied Carl Winchester to score if he got another run in the absence of Luke O’Nien in midfield and with Huggins able to take his place at right back. However, Huggins is now out for 3 months and O’Nien looks likely to start against Gillingham so I’ll go for another midfielder, Dan Neil, to grab himself a goal in a win for the Lads. £5 returns £40.

Sunday Treble

I’m fancying Spurs to spoil decapitation day at St James’ Park, before thinking Empoli and Roma can both get a win or a draw against Atalanta and Juventus respectively (double chance). £5 returns £44.63.

Paul Fletcher says…

Sunderland to win 3-1

Hopefully we’ll put the memory of our last away game in the league behind us and get back to winning ways. £5 returns £75

Daring Double

Leicester to beat Man Utd in the Premier League and Portsmouth to win away at Rotherham. Both are major underdogs but I can see both teams pulling off minor upsets. £5 returns £78.83

Danny Roberts says...

Sunderland to win 2-1

The new strategy hasn’t worked as of yet but we go again! £5 returns £42.50.

Arsenal to beat Crystal Palace in Monday night’s game, Middlesbrough to win the ‘Boro derby, Swindon to ease past Rochdale. £10 returns £65.01.

Malc Dugdale says...

Sunderland to win 0-3

Gills have shipped a few goals and we can score them. A 3-0 away win is worth 12-1 on SkyBet, so my fiver returns £65.

Away prem triple

Away wins for a few strong teams (in places against lesser opponents) is my safer bet this week.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Brighton all to win away from home. At odds over 3-1, this returns £43 for a tenner bet.

Michael Dunne says...

Sunderland to win 0-2

I fancy a comfortable one for the lads on Saturday. I expect Lee Johnson’s post Portsmouth words to he still ringing in the players ears. I can foresee a tight and cagey beginning to this game before the lads getting a couple of goals in the second half to get us back to winning ways. A 2-0 win. £5 returns £40.

Goals Galore

Nothing too ambitious here but hopefully gets me back to winning ways. A treble of over 2.5 goals in three big Premier League games, at Man City, Leicester and Everton. £5 returns £24
