As the Knicks prepared for the opening game of their preseason schedule, taking the first step in front of fans at Madison Square Garden, they took a hit from the competition.

The NBA released its annual GM survey Tuesday, and in it the competition backed up the oddsmakers who have predicted a step back in the standings for the Knicks after their surprising 2020-21 season.

The Knicks finished last season with a 41-31 record, earning the fourth-seed and a playoff spot, and they arguably improved their roster with the addition of Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier and rookies Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride.
