All that booze Americans bought during the beginning of the pandemic is catching up with us.

Many states are now experiencing alcohol shortages due to demand, supply chains failing, and shipping costs causing prices to skyrocket. Last week, the Pennsylvania state consumer liquor board made an announcement that limited two bottles of select alcohol brands a day per customer.

And in North Carolina, customers in liquor stores are frequently finding “out of stock” signs.

David Ozgo, chief economist of the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S., says, “I don’t think anybody saw the kind of demand that we’re seeing right now-- particularly in those high-end super-premium products-- coming.”

He adds that inventory issues are affecting every aspect of the alcohol beverage supply chain, with some alcohol brands having issues sourcing glass for bottle-making.

Other states experiencing the alcohol shortage: Vermont, New Jersey, Ohio, and Virginia.
