The new Eagles coach is getting right on that rivalry thing.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni has bought into his team’s rivalry with the Cowboys and Philadelphia’s hatred of America’s Team. Sirianni wore a T-shirt that read “Beat Dallas” to his news conference Thursday.

“Yeah, I’m sure they’re going to have the picture of this shirt on there, and that’s fine,” Sirianni said when asked if he was giving the Cowboys bulletin board material, via the Dallas Morning News. “This is about a great rivalry and that means a lot to this city, that means a lot in our building.”

Sirianni said he will wear the shirt all week as will his wife and his kids.

On Monday night, the Eagles and Cowboys will meet for the 121st time. Neither team’s fan base likes the other’s, with Sirianni comparing the rivalry to a college rivalry.

“You can definitely feel it,” Sirianni said. “I can’t tell you how many times since I’ve been here having an interaction with a fan, it’s, like, ‘Hey, beat Dallas.’ And I think that’s really cool. I think that’s awesome.”

So what do the Cowboys think of the shirt from Sirianni?

Receiver CeeDee Lamb’s eyes widened, too.

But it was Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, perhaps more comfortable as a veteran, who spoke unguarded. Would he want head coach Mike McCarthy arriving to work in a “Beat Philly” shirt?

“No,” the sixth-year pro quipped. “We stay in our lane.”

Looks like the Cowboys will once again be short handed at some key positions for this week’s contest.

FRISCO, Texas – Defensive end Dorance Armstrong (ankle), defensive tackle Carlos Watkins (knee) and offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe (illness) will not practice this week or play in Monday night’s home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said.

Armstrong and Watkins started against the Chargers last Sunday but were injured in the game. Nsekhe was treated for heat-related illness symptoms last week and was inactive against LA.

“It’s an illness and there’s a plan to bring him back,” McCarthy said. “Just got to be smart. This is a long year.”

Wide receiver Amari Cooper (bruised ribs) will be limited in Thursday’s practice, McCarthy said. Safety Donovan Wilson is still dealing with a groin injury and is not expected to practice Thursday.

Some early thoughts and predictions for the Cowboys week three matchup versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

On most other teams, I think Dalton Schultz is a second or third target for a quarterback. On Dallas, he is a bit deeper down the line. The tight end has reliable hands, seems to understand where the first down sticks are, and has proven a great outlet valve for quarterback Dak Prescott to get the ball to.

The Eagles will be keying on receivers Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb this week, as any team should. I think that opens up the seam for Schultz in a big way. The Eagles’ secondary is a little suspect at the strong safety spot. Veteran, Rodney McLeod was inactive last week rehabbing a torn ACL and comes into this week questionable. McLeod’s backup, Marcus Epps, is going through concussion protocol after exiting Week 1 early.

If the Eagles are forced to start their third-string safety, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has a sizable mismatch with his athletic tight end, Dalton Schultz in between the hashes. Heck, I am even going to say Schultz finds the end zone for us this week.

Isn’t it a bit ironic that the Eagles chose a player named Dallas? Anyways, I think this is an area the Eagles could hurt the Cowboys. Dallas Goedert is a large man coming in at 6’5″ and weighing 256 pounds. He also split time with Zach Ertz.

Instead of appreciating the two-headed monster in the Cowboys backfield, people are too worried about who should get the bulk of the opportunities.

Perhaps that is the wrong question for Dallas Cowboys fans to be asking.

The Cowboys offense has the fourth-most total yards in the NFL after two games. And they’ve done it two entirely different ways.

So maybe ask this question instead: Is the Cowboys offense better when Elliott and Pollard share the carries?

“Every week we’ve all got the same common goal, and that’s the goal to win football games,” said Elliott, who has 104 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries through two games. “However we’ve got to do that, that’s what we’ve got to do.”

The Cowboys (1-1) host the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) at 7:15 p.m. Monday at AT&T Stadium.

Both running backs say their differing styles complement the other. And that could be a critical factor in the success of the offense in 2021.

If you include our postgame coverage from Week 2, I think this will be the fourth story I’ve written about Micah Parsons in the last five days. I took a day off to sleep off the jetlag from the redeye flight on Monday, but other than that it’s been a steady diet of Parsons content all week.

I’m sorry about that – but also I’m not?

Unless you care about the snap split for Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, and I assuredly do not, what other dominant storyline came out of that win in Los Angeles? I’ve written Parsons’ stat line so many times I can see it in my sleep, so I won’t do it again here. But the guy’s play against the Chargers was a revelation.

That said, I don’t really want to see it again this week – not exclusively, anyway. Not for this matchup.

The reason is simple, and it’s the speedy young quarterback on the opposite side of the line.

Judging from the first two weeks of his season, Jalen Hurts has made some progress as a passer. I’m not here to belittle his abilities from inside the pocket. But it doesn’t take a football expert to see that what makes him the most dangerous at this stage of his career are his feet.

Through two games, Hurts is leading the Eagles in rushing with 144 yards on just 17 carries. In last week’s loss to San Francisco, he carried 10 times for 82 yards and Philly’s only touchdown.
