Pirates down Marlins 6-3, now looking to sweep

The Pittsburgh Pirates have had some major issues sweeping teams this season, but we’ll get to that in second. First was the 6-3 victory over the Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh’s fourth series win in a row.

The Marlins committed a wild pitch in the first and a big error in the fourth that got Pittsburgh on the board with three runs, and the Buccos then got a two-run triple from Hoy Park, his first of the year, in the top of the fifth. Pittsburgh finished out their scoring with a Cole Tucker single in the bottom of the seventh that scored Yoshi Tsutsugo. Tucker also tripled earlier in the game, also his first of the year.

Pittsburgh starter Bryce Wilson went five innings before leaving with hamstring tightness, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out three. The Buccos bullpen then mostly did their job, giving up just one more run the rest of the way by Kyle Keller, with both Sam Howard and Chasen Shreve striking out two in their lone innings pitched.

But there’s a day game on tap today (which I’m sure will have so many Pittsburghers watching since there’s a little 40-year-old rivalry taking place at Heinz Field today), but nonetheless, the Buccos will finally look to snag a sweep after not securing one all season.

Following devastating back-to-back sweeps in Chicago at the hands of the Cubs and the White Sox, however, the Pirates won the first two against the Detroit Tigers before losing the sweep game, the first two against the Washington Nationals before again losing the sweep game, then the first two against the Cincinnati Red before once again... you know it... losing the sweep game.

They’ll attempt to finally get one in the bag this afternoon.
