Breaking News: Colts, RB Nyheim Hines Agree To Three-Year, $18.6M Contract Extension

The Indianapolis Colts and running back Nyheim Hines have agreed on a 3-year, $18.6 million contract extension, according to Field Yates.

Hines gets $6.2 per year and becomes one of the league’s highest-paid running backs, Yates added.

A former 4th-round pick in 2018, Hines has been nothing short of exceptional for the Colts. In total, the versatile running back has rushed for 893 yards, 7 rushing touchdowns and averaged 4.0/YPC.

Where Hines has really made a difference, though, is in the passing game, as he’s garnered a total of 1,227 receiving yards, averaged 7.2 yards per catch and caught 6 touchdowns as well.

With Hines receiving a well-deserved contract extension, he becomes the third 2018 draft selection to be given a long-term deal, joining second-round picks Darius Leonard and Braden Smith.

Hines’ versatility and track-like speed has led to a substantial role in the special teams department, as he’s been Indy’s primary kick and punt-returner for each of the last two seasons.

During that span, Hines has returned kicks and punts a total of 39 times, averaging 21.4 yards per return while gaining 581 total return yards and finding the end zone two times.

To the Colts’ organization and his teammates, Hines has been an incredible leader both on and off the field. His coaches and fellow teammates have spoken highly of him, his skills and overall leadership on numerous occasions.

When speaking with local media members Monday afternoon, Hines could barely contain his excitement for the upcoming season.

“I’m excited that I know I’m playing football next week,” Hines said. “I think the biggest thing I do is try to focus. We haven’t won a home opener since I’ve been here. That’s really the biggest focus is get out to 1-0.”

Offensively, the Colts face one of the more improved defenses from last season when the Seattle Seahawks come to town. Hines said the offense, despite dealing with its fair share of obstacles, will be 100% ready.

“I think we do feel in sync, and I think also too, chemistry is required but it’s all about execution,” Hines said. “We know where we’re supposed to be and with a guy like Carson, if we’re where we’re supposed to be, he’s gonna take care of us.”

Hines is such a crucial piece to what the Colts do offensively as well as in the punt/kick-return game, too. Now, Indianapolis has rewarded the running backs’ play, hard work and leadership with a multi-year contract extension.
