    NY man injured, taken to hospital after stray bullet strikes him while in bed in Paterson apartment

    (PATERSON, N.J.) A 35-year-old man was struck by a stray bullet while laying in bed in a New Jersey apartment on Monday, according to ABC 7.

    The gunfire started around 12:15 a.m. near East 23rd Street and Park Avenue in Paterson.

    Officials said responding officers identified the crime scene and a 35-year-old male from Yonkers, New York, who was injured by the random gunshots.

    He was transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment.

    A preliminary investigation showed the victim was asleep in the residence when the bullets pierced him from outside.

    The gunfire also left marks on the outside of the home and three nearby motor vehicles.

    Police have made no arrests and the investigation is still active.
