Nassau County opens cooling centers for public amid heat wave

(NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y.) Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said Tuesday the county would open three cooling centers this week for residents looking to get out of the heat.

Here are the locations:

  • Cantiague Park Administration Office at 480 W John St., Hicksville, N.Y. The conference room is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Community Room Mitchel Field Administration Building at 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Uniondale, N.Y. The first floor is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Wantagh Administration Building at 1 King Rd., Wantagh, N.Y. The building is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most of Long Island has been under a National Weather Service Heat Advisory since Monday at noon due to heat index temperatures in the high 90s and low 100s throughout the tri-state area.

The heat advisory is due to expire at 8 p.m. Wednesday, the NWS said.
