Former Phillies prospect is leaving baseball to chase NFL dream

Former Philadelphia Phillies player Dylan Cozens has decided to leave baseball in the rearview and pursue a new career path. According to his account, Cozens is now going to chase his dream of playing in the NFL. In his tweet pictured below, Cozens thanked the Phillies, Rays, and Brewers for giving him an opportunity to play professional baseball. Cozens father Randy played football for four years as a defensive lineman at the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted in the 17th round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, but never played for them.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with Cozens, he was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round (77th overall) of the 2012 MLB Draft. During the 2016 season with the Fightin’ Phils, Cozens hit 40 home runs. When the 2018 season started, a guy by the name of Rhys Hoskins took over first base duties for the Phillies, and Cozens was left behind in Triple-A.

After the Phillies, he spent time in the Giants organization, followed by the Tampa Bay Rays. Most recently, he was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Cozens has been playing for the Nashville Sounds this year.

No word on what position Cozens wants to play in the NFL. Maybe he will go the Tim Tebow route and see if he can land a spot on an NFL roster as a tight end. Best of luck, pal.
