    Akron CSU receives green building challenge award

    CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland State University has won several awards in three categories in the Green Building Challenge award held by The Cleveland 2030 District, in collaboration with the U.S Green Building Council Ohio NE Region.

    The Cleveland 2030 District aims to maximize the community’s performance in building eco-friendly cities and districts by reducing energy consumption and adapting to climate change.

    The Green Building Challenge is an annual competition held to measure progress achieved in the community in reducing energy use, water consumption, and commuter transportation emissions.

    CSU picked up awards in all three categories:

    1. Water

    - CSU Cleveland-Marshall College of Law building has had a reduction from a baseline of 40% to 49% in energy use and over 50% reduction in water consumption.

    - CSU’s Center for Innovation in Medical Professions has had a reduction from a baseline of 40% to 49% in water consumption.

    2. Energy

    • The CSU Music & Communication building has had a reduction from a baseline of 40% to 49% in energy use.

    • The CSU Science Building has had a reduction from a baseline of 30 to 39 percent in energy use.

    3. Transportation

    • The university has had a baseline 40% to 49% reduction in transportation emissions.

    Jennifer McMillin, CSU director of sustainability, congratulates the university for its achievement and underlines the importance of energy reduction in life’s aspects, “Reducing energy consumption is important not only for the financial savings but to meet our goals for reducing campus greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the threats of climate change.”

    The university is looking forward to making a more significant impact in developing building and environment management.
