University of Houston Downtown hosts 'GatorLEADER' diversity leadership classes

HOUSTON, TX — The University of Houston Downtown is holding the 'GatorLEADER' Program classes on June 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and June 18 from 1-3 p.m.

The 'GatorLEADER' Program is a workshop-based Diversity Leadership curriculum addressed to staff and students leading to an official certificate of completion.

Employers of all kinds are acknowledging the value of diversity and the importance of inclusive practices in the workplace. This program provides UHD students with professionally designed in-house diversity training and certification opportunities that will make them even more competitive when they on the job market.

UHD staff who already completed the program will be precious advocates in their units for inclusive practices that leverage UHD diversity for maximum benefit to the campus community.

Students and staff are invited to take advantage of this chance to develop their diversity leadership skills while getting an in-house certification attesting to the completion of the necessary curriculum.

This program will be held virtually via Zoom. The topic on June 17 will be "Inclusive Language". It will discuss how language has the power to exclude and to include, how do employers and employees use language as part of a strategy of inclusive excellence, and how to encourage the use of inclusive language in the face of resistance based on perceptions of "political correctness".

Interested parties can participate in the "Inclusive Language" program by filling out a short form and the "Unconscious Bias" program by completing this form.
