    World Refugee Day Houston to hold a week-long virtual celebration

    HOUSTON, TX — World Refugee Day Houston is holding a week-long virtual celebration to acknowledge World Refugee Day Houston 2021 from June 14 to 20 to celebrate and stand in solidarity with local refugee communities across Houston and the world.

    This celebration will feature showcasing recipes, stories, community events, and messages that give light to those who help develop the community daily.

    The participant will get an opportunity to share in culture, art, and information about how to support refugee resettlement.

    This celebration will highlight the creative contributions of refugees who live in Houston while raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.

    This week-long celebration will hold several events from June 7 to 20, such as "Creating A Future Together" contest on Thursday, June 10 at 12.00 a.m. There are four categories: children (6-8 years), pre-teens (9-10 years), teens (12-17 years), adults (novice), and adults (accomplished).

    Next in the lineup is the "Sharing Culture Cuisine" event on June 15, "Mayor of Houston Proclamation and Support Messages" on Wednesday, June 16, "Spotlighting Refugee Success Stories" on June 17, "Art Contest Hosted by UNA USA Houston" on June 18 and "Showcasing Refugee Welcome Address From State Department" on June 20.

    Other events such as "Welcome: A Virtual Poetry Declaration for World Refugee Day" will be presented by Catholic Charities, RAICES, Approach Place, NEISD, Cielo Unity in Action, SAMA, and the City of San Antonio Office of the Immigration Liaison. This event will feature original poems on displacement and resilience written and read by refugees, asylum seekers, and other displaced people in collaboration with local poets and writers.
