My Favorite Chinese Restaurants in San Diego Part 2

    2021-06-09

Frequent readers here know good and well how much I enjoy some amazing and authentic Chinese cuisine. As a Californian, I am lucky enough to live in a state that features every style of Chinese food that the world has to offer. From Szechuan to Cantonese style, I truly enjoy it all, and I want you to have the chance to enjoy the best of the best as well. I have done my share of dining in the city of San Diego, and they boast some of the tastiest Chinese food around. If you are going to be in this sunny part of Southern California, then read on to learn more about some of my favorite Chinese restaurants in San Diego.

Since 2004, the family behind Minh Ky has been making their amazing noodles and dumplings in the San Diego area. Located on El Cajon, they offer all of the popular favorites that Chinese food fans have come to love. Fans of rice noodle soups must try an order of their seafood big rice soup. It is very flavorful and their noodles are very soft. If you want a different type of noodle dish, I would recommend the seafood chow mein because that always hits the spot when I can't decide on what to order. They also offer a wide variety of chow fun from beef to shrimp to chicken which is also a great option but it can be a bit oily sometimes. If you take your noodles on the crispy side, one of my favorites is their savory pork crispy noodles, crispy on top, moist and savory on the bottom. On a warm day, I recommend their French filter iced coffee with condensed milk which might be a bit strong for some people but it will definitely wake you up.

What I recommend: any of their noodle dishes

    Tasty Noodle House

The aptly named Tasty Noodle House has multiple locations throughout Southern California. They have been serving up everything from house favorites to dim sum for over ten years. When you visit, be sure to start your meal off with an order of their shredded black fungus with mustard sauce. It may sound kind of weird to eat something called shredded black fungus but it tastes delicious and worth a try! For a nice kick of spice, I like their fish fillet and beef with spicy sauce as an entrée. I love getting fish fillet at every restaurant I visit, but they prepare it very well with a good amount of spice here. To handle that spice, make sure to treat yourself to one of their ice-cold red bean slushes.

What I recommend: Spicy fish fillet

Location: 4646 Convoy St Ste 110 San Diego, CA 92111

This is easily the place to be if you enjoy your grub on the spicy side. If you are not a fan of spice, fear not as Spicy City will still have a menu option that you are sure to love. Their wonton with stewed pork noodle is easily one of my favorites. If that is too much spice for your palate, then I suggest you give their beef noodle in clear broth a try. They also offer family-style casseroles to feed the whole party. Bring a large group. I promise there will be something on the menu for all takers.

What I recommend: wonton noodle soup with extra spice

Location: 4690 Convoy St Ste 107 San Diego, CA 92111

Most people visit San Diego thanks to its fantastic weather and sunny skies. If it were up to me, more people would be making a point to visit San Diego for its traditional Chinese offerings. So many California cities are lucky to offer the Chinese cuisine we have come to know and love. San Diego is able to do so while also promising fine weather and long strolls on the beach. Not a bad combination.
