Are you a cornhole fanatic? Do you practice in your backyard, or is it what you look forward to most while tailgating for the Arizona Wildcats, Cardinals, or wherever else you might go for sports? Perhaps it’s your go-to camping and beach activity with your friends. Or, maybe you just like to take part when it’s an outdoor game option at the local bar. However involved you are with the game, if you want to claim the right of calling yourself a “Cornhole Champion,” and you want to help a local organization raise some money, the upcoming Celtic Cornhole Tournament is a can’t miss.

The Celtic Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser is being put on by the Tucson Celtic Festival Association. They are the group that puts on the annual Scottish Highland Games and Highland Festival (if you haven’t been to the annual event before, it’s an exciting time and full of activities, games, food, and fun you simply won’t find anywhere else in southern Arizona).

The annual Scottish Highlander Festival is what helps keep the organization running, thanks to ticket prices and some revenue brought in from artisans selling their goods. However, because the event was shuttered last year it has left the Tucson Celtic Festival Association scrambling a bit for money to put on this upcoming year’s festival.

The organization doesn’t want to simply put on a general, run-of-the-mill fundraiser. Instead, it wants to put on something fun than anyone can take part in, which is why they are running the Celtic Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser.

The fundraiser is $20 per team and will be held at the Button Brew House, which is to the northwest of Tucson (at 6800 N. Camino Martin, Ste. 160 Marana). The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 26, and will run from 4 PM until 8 PM.

There will be a registration for the event, although that has not officially gone live yet, so make sure to stay up to date with this by connecting with the Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Highland Games Facebook page. You will likely be able to arrive at the brewery and register the day of, although it is recommended to do it ahead of time as, if there is a large turnout, it will be easier to make the necessary pairings of teams.

Of course, everyone is welcome to attend the cornhole tournament, so bring along your cheering section. It is held at a brewery, after all, so cold drinks and food will be available throughout the afternoon and evening.

As for the Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Games, the 35th annual event is currently being planned. Right now it is set to take place on November 5 and run through the 7th (this makes it almost perfect weather for the event as the temps will be in decline).

The Tucson Celtic Festival Association is a non-profit organization that not only puts on the festival at the end of the year, but it donates to other Celtic events and activities throughout the year. The Tucson St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival is one charity the association does donate to. While the festival did not take place in 2020 and 2021, they are standing behind the donations to help ensure it comes back bigger and better than ever for 2022.

Beyond helping the organization raise money with the cornhole tournament, if you’d like to donate time or help in any way (namely for the upcoming festival in November), you can volunteer register for the event beginning September 1 through the organization’s website, so visit the website if that's something you would like to help with.
