Will County Book Reuse and Recycling Event this weekend

    2021-06-05

The Will County Book Reuse and Recycling event will take place this weekend at the Pilcher Park Nature Center in Joliet, IL. The event will run each day from Friday, June 4 to Sunday, June 6 from 9 AM Central Standard Time (CST) until 4 PM CST.

Do you have stacks of books that you read during the pandemic since you had so much extra time at home? Are you looking to do some final spring cleaning before summer begins? Are you looking to declutter you residence?

You now have the chance to take all of the information that you have learned so that the knowledge can be passed on to others that may not have the access to a library in the area that they live. You can ensure that these books are either recycled or given to someone that does not have the extra funds to spend on literary consumption because the effects of this pandemic have affected the incomes of people throughout the community.

The event is totally free because it is being sponsored by the Will County Land Use Department. You do have to wear a mask when dropping off your books. The Nature Center has not been cleared to open back up as of yet, but that will probably be changing soon because of decrease of the number of coronavirus cases throughout Will County. The current seven-day positivity rate in Will County is at 3.2 percent. That would be around one in thirty people within the county that currently have COVID-19. Hopefully, the positivity rate goes below 1% soon so that the Nature Center can reopen.

Recycling and reusing these books will allow for the Will County Land Use Department to cut down on potential waste that could possibly affect the environment of the natural habitat in unincorporated sections of Will County. The books that you give to this event will help prevent the overflow of landfills within the area.

Plus, your contribution will add on to the amount of books that were donated already. Earlier this week, schools and libraries throughout the county were able to bring books that were no longer in circulation to the Pilcher Park Nature Center. This recycling will allow for schools and libraries to eliminate books that are outdated and obsolete in order to bring in books that are more current that will give the children of today more pertinent information so that they can become productive citizens within our society.

After you drop off your books at the Nature Center, then make sure that you check out the flower garden at Pilcher Park. The flower garden is the crown jewel of this park with plenty of marigolds and violets abound in a colorful blend next to the Horticultural area.

The rest of the park is filled with different sorts of trails if you are a person that loves to hike and that loves to explore nature. Make sure that you grab a map before you begin hiking on these trails so that you do not end up lost in the forest like Hansel and Gretel. Always remember to protect yourself when you go hiking because you never know who or what you can run into on these trails.

If you need further information about the Will County Book Reuse and Recycling Event, then you can check out these two websites from Will County: willcountygreen.com and willcountylanduse.com. If there is a question that you still need to have answered after checking out both of the Will County websites, then you can call them directly with your concerns at (815) 727-8834.

Thank you all for reading and thank you all for recycling this weekend.
