At 10 am on Wednesday multiple Emergency Medical Services vehicles arrived at a scene on the US-101 N (originally reported as US-101 S) freeway and Haskell where a man was barricaded in a car and was "combative" according to reports.

    Police surrounded the vehicle.

Police officers then limited traffic in the area.

They reported that the suspect's rear window appeared to be broken, possibly having been struck by gunfire. It is not clear when the window was broken.

Police officers on scene reported that the suspect may have been armed with a knife or screwdriver. This was at first unconfirmed.

Emergency personnel stated the man was armed with a boxcutter and a screwdriver.

Over an hour and a half later, police were attempting to use a K-9 to coerce the man out of the vehicle.

Citizen app users reported they have seen rifles taken out of police vehicles as it was an armed standoff.

CHP used beanbags to remove the individual from the car. He is in CHP custody and will be transported to a nearby hospital with an extremity wound and potentially under the influence or mentally unwell.

The car is potentially stolen. Further information is unavailable at this time. No gunshots were fired.

Highway 101 has seen many a standoff. In San Jose in August 2020 and near Sherman Oaks in November 2020, to cite the most recent occurences.

Two days earlier, a driver was shot in a road rage incident near Studio City. In 2021, there have been 234 mass shootings in the U.S.
