    The University of Arizona in Tucson is a research university that was founded in 1885 in Tucson. Apparently, it was the first university founded in the Arizona Territory.

    The institution is very interesting in many ways - and one of those is the fact that you can find museums right on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson!

    The Center for Creative Photography

    The first place on the list is the Center for Creative Photography, which presently has over 270 archival collections. It opened in 1975 in Tucson and it's an amazing art museum as well as a study center when it comes to photography and its history.

    And what is the mission of the Center for Creative Photography? The official website is clear on that:

    "The Center for Creative Photography is the premier research collection of American photographic fine art and archives, promoting creative inquiry, dialogue, and appreciation of photography’s enduring cultural influence. The Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona expands the history of photography to deepen an understanding of how the medium impacts society."

    And what can you expect to see in the museum? There are collections such as Fine Art Photographs (featuring artists such as Robert Heinecken or Max Yavno) but also books and other materials related to photography that you can study.

    During the spring semester, the center is closed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, you can visit it in the future. The museum is located at the University of Arizona 1030 N. Olive Rd. in Tucson.

    Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium

    The second museum you can visit in the University of Arizona district is the Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium, which opened in 1975. In the center, you get to learn more about biology, energy, optics, and more.

    Not only that, but you also get to visit the planetarium, which is described on the official website thus:

    "Sit back, relax and experience an amazing immersive science journey in the Eos Planetarium Theater – Southern Arizona’s only planetarium. Recently renovated with state-of-the-art projection technology, sound system, and seating, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss."

    The place used to be called The Grace H. Flandrau Planetarium and it was designed by a Tucson architectural firm Blanton and Company.

    And what are some of the exhibits you can visit in this great museum right in Tucson? Well, there are exhibits such as "Sharks: Magnificent & Misunderstood", "Welcome to the Critical Zone" or "Solar System Revealed".

    When it comes to the ticket prices, one ticket generally costs 18 dollars per adult, 16 dollars per senior and military, 14 dollars per child between the ages of 4-17, and 14 dollars per student. The opening hours are a bit limited due to the pandemic, though:

    "Beginning May 15th, Flandrau will be open Thursdays through Sundays for timed public visitor sessions with limited guest capacity. Sessions fill quickly, all guests are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance."
