Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP) has announced on May 20 its schedule for summer fitness programs, downtown tours, roller skating and live music, and hinted at plans in the works for games and a mobile creativity cart. The offers have no cost and open to all people.

DAP recommends those who wish to take the fitness programs such as yoga, doggie boot camp, taiji (tai chi), kickboxing, line dancing, Zumba, and DrumFIT, to register in advance.

“We are excited to offer fun and accessible programming for everyone in our community in downtown Akron, and we want to invite everyone to visit. We’ve added some fun new classes to our fitness offerings, like kickboxing with Black2Life Fitness Ministry, taiji from local Shifu Gary Harris, and Thank Dog! Bootcamp for our four-legged friends and their humans,” said Kelli Fetter, DAP Director of Engagement and Events.

DAP will adjust all of the events to stick to the health recommendations of the Summit County Board of Health, together with state and federal guidelines.

Furthermore, DAP will hold roller skating on Cascade Plaza with family skates and skate nights for grown-ups along with DJ group Phuture Boogie that will last for four weeks.

“We wanted the adult nights to be real parties, so we are working with Phuture Boogie (Forrest Getemgump, Darrell Stout and Andre Leone), who were inspired by the successful Soul Skate events in Detroit and wanted to bring that vibe to Akron,” said Fetter.

Meanwhile, DAP will offer a different program every day of the week, and people who want to know more about the program can visit downtownakron.com/summer for the details.
