After a year of hiatus, 'Brew at the Zoo' will return to the Zoo Atlanta on May 27.

'Charlie's Choice: A Conservation Ale', an exclusive new brew produced by SweetWater Brewery in collaboration with Zoo Atlanta, will make its debut at the 12th annual event this year.

Charlie, a 24-year-old bachelor gorilla of the zoo, was chosen earlier this year to help choose the ingredients for the special themed creation. Charlie was given the choice of selecting one of three fruits: grapefruit, wild berries, or banana – all of which are part of what gorillas eat. His choice was grapefruit, which became the basis of 'Charlie's Choice'.

Guests attending the May 27 event will be able to sample 'Charlie's Choice: A Conservation Ale' while also making a donation to animal welfare. A portion of the profits from the event would be used to support Zoo Atlanta and its conservation efforts.

Other Atlanta breweries participating in the event include Down Home Brewing Co., Fire Maker Brewing Company, Monday Night Brewing, New Realm Brewing Company, Red Hare Brewing, Scofflaw Brewing Co., Tucker Brewing Company, Urban Tree Cidery, Wild Heaven Beer, and Wild Leap Brewing Company. The event will include an assortment of wines in addition to beers.

The Jump Cut, DJ Ree de la Vega, and Lilac Wine will also perform live at the May 27 show. Each event day will have a unique lineup. Besides music, attendees will be able to enjoy free carousel rides and night-time zoo visit that feature animals of the savannah.
