My favorite Greek food in Rochester's Kainos
Rochester, NY has a large Greek community which means many Greek restaurants around town with amazing food options. If you have ever been to Greece, you already know the diet in Greece consists of a lot of feta cheese, olives, in season fruits and vegetables, along with meats such as pork, lamb, and chicken.
The most iconic food in Greece is a Gyro. Gyro is pita bread stuffed with meat, usually pork or chicken, french fries, tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup, and mustard. The meat in the Gyro is what makes this dish perfect because it is cooked very slowly and shaved so instead of thick chunks of meat, you get thinly shaved, moist, and flavorful meat and this little detail makes the Gyro exactly what it is.
Kainos in Rochester
Here in Rochester, one of my favorite restaurants that has a great tasting Gyro is Kainos on Exchange Blvd. Kainos is on a perfect location because although you're not on a Greek island, you still have a view of Rochester's Genesee River. Kainos menu has great choices of Mediterranean dishes including:
- stuffed cabbage leaves
- Aegean Sea Mussels
- and so much more.
With many of their dishes, you also get a side of my favorite tzatziki, a creamy garlic sauce.
Not only is the food amazing at Kainos, but there is also a never ending selection of drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic. My favorite drink at Kainos is the Greek frappe because it reminds me of our trips to Greece on hot summer days, laying on Greek sandy beaches.
Kainos has both indoor and outdoor seating and even had igloos this year in the winter. Kainos often times has live music and if you're seated outside by the water, you'll most definitely feel like you're on a Greek vacation.
This authentic Greek restaurant in Rochester is located in Corn Hill so there is an available parking lot both in front of Kainos as well as across the street.
If you have been to Kainos in Rochester, what is your favorite dish that you have ordered?
