(WILLIAMS, Ariz.) Two people were found dead Sunday in the wreckage of a plane on its way to Grand Canyon Airport.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Department said in a press release that it got a report of an overdue aircraft from Vista, California at around 6 p.m.

Both occupants of the plane were identified as 37-year-old Michael Gill and 38-year-old Joylani Roseann Kamalu, both Vista residents.

The Sheriff's Department said the plane was scheduled to arrive at the Grand Canyon Airport at 9 a.m. after leaving the Sedona Airport earlier Sunday.

Authorities said the State Search and Rescue Coordinator and the U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol were notified about the plane due to the possibility of it being found in different jurisdictions.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety's Air Rescue found the plane just after 1:30 a.m. in a wooded area near Williams Municipal Airport. The bodies of Gill and Kamalu were found inside the plane.

The National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, CCSO and Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the crash.
