Celebrity Couples That Didn't Survive 2020
2021-01-14
While 2020 will always be remembered as the year we learned which of our friends and family members are selfish and egotistical, for some, it was also the year they ended a long relationship. Whether quarantine is to blame or not, a lot of couples who started the year together didn't finish it off the same way.
Here's a look at the biggest celebrity couples that didn't survive 2020:
Olivia Wilde & Jason Sudeikis

Last year may have been rough, but no one saw this celebrity split coming! Actors Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis were together for nearly a decade and have two children together, Otis Alexander (6) and Daisy Josephine (4).
The two first met at an SNL finale party, but it was months before they started dating. Wilde described how their relationship developed to Allure saying:
Over the next six months we kept running into each other. [One night], my best guy friend walked up to him and said, ‘This is Olivia’s number. Use it.’ That was the beginning.
The couple split early into 2020, ending their seven-year engagement. Wilde has recently been linked to Harry Styles, who is ten years her junior. The pair met on the set of Don't Worry Darling and were spotted holding hands at a friend's wedding several days ago.
Zoe Kravitz & Karl Glusman

Big Little Lies actress Zoe Kravitz was first linked to actor Karl Glusman back in October 2016. They went on to get married in Paris at the home of Kravitz's famous father, Lenny Kravitz. Despite their relationship appearing to be happy on the outside, they were obviously struggling behind closed doors.
Kravitz filed for divorce on December 23, leaving her marriage as well as 2020 behind this New Year. While neither she nor Glusman has publically commented on their split, Kravitz recently posted a cryptic meme to her Instagram story that fans are convinced refers to her now-ex.

The meme shows a drag queen tossing a garbage bag in a dumpster captioned with: "People places and things that no longer serve my greatest and highest good." What do you think? Is Kravitz calling her ex garbage with this post?
Johnny Galecki & Alaina Meyer

The Big Bang Theory actor Johnny Galecki and his girlfriend model Alaina Meyer split this year after first appearing in public together in 2018. Considering their more than twenty-year age difference, it's not surprising that the couple didn't make it out of 2020 together.
One good thing to come out of their relationship was the birth of their son Avery. Meyer commented on their split in a post for her son's first birthday writing:
... this has been the gnarliest year of my life, with the highest highs and the lowest lows but even in the hardest moments ... there was a healthy baby boy that needed me and kept me grounded and centered ... watching this little one come into himself is the best gift. I am so grateful for his health and our journey together.
Neither Galecki nor Meyer has been romantically linked to anyone else since their recent split.
Susan Kelechi Watson & Jaime Lincoln Smith

This Is Us actress Susan Kelechi Watson split from Jaime Lincoln Smith just a year after announcing their engagement. Both parties have since deleted the Instagram post where Watson showed off her Saphire engagement ring.
In a similar fashion, Watson broke the news they split on her Instagram story by posting:
And I thought becoming Single was gonna be the only eventful thing to happen to me this year #TwentyTwenty
Rappers Iggy Azalea and Playboi Carti kept their relationship on the down-low, even keeping Azalea's pregnancy quiet until after their son was born. They were first linked in 2018 and rumored to be engaged. However, it seems that Carti couldn't handle the responsibility that comes with raising a child.
News of their split first surfaced after Azalea shared a cryptic post to her Instagram story. It read:
You lost a real 1. People take loyalty for granted & that’s why I’d rather be alone. One thing I’ll never understand is how liars live with themselves. That s–t don’t eat y’all up inside?
Azalea later confirmed that her Instagram story was in fact referring to Carti. She posted another story to clarify writing:
What I mean last night was that I’m raising my son alone & I’m not in a relationship.
Kristin Cavallari & Jay Cutler

Kristin Cavallari and former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler split in 2020 after 10 years together. Despite their seemingly perfect marriage portrayed on the reality show, Very Cavallari, the couple announced on Instagram that they would be getting a divorce.
With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.
The couple still works together to co-parent their three kids. While their divorce seems to have come out of the blue, Cavallari has revealed that it was years in the making.
Jonah Hill & Gianna Santos

Actor Jonah Hill was first spotted out with his now ex Gianna Santos in August of 2018. They then got engaged in October of 2019, but mostly kept their relationship out of the spotlight. This was especially easy for them since Santos lives in the real world as opposed to in Hollywood with Hill and his peers.
Jennifer Garner & John Miller

Jennifer Garner started dating businessman John Miller after her divorce from Ben Affleck was finalized in 2018. Unfortunately, their relationship didn't last. According to ET Online, the couple split sometime in the spring of 2020, at the peak of quarantine. The source revealed:
Jen and John called it quits several months ago. They've remained friends. They just started seeing less and less of each other and finally called it quits. She has nothing negative to say about John; they just seemed to drift apart.
She says he was an amazing stepping stone in her life. Jen's focus still remains on her children, her career and spending time with those who make her really happy.
Scott Disick & Sofia Richie

Scott Disick and Sofia Richie may claim they're just on a break, however, Disick hasn't wasted any time moving on. After more than three years together, it seems their love couldn't survive quarantine and Disick found himself back in rehab. A source told US Weekly:
Scott and Sofia are on a break until Scott straightens himself out more. Scott is in an OK place right now and is trying to get better and focus on work, but he has to prove himself.
At the beginning of the quarantine Scott was doing really well and was doing a great job at taking care of himself and staying positive and healthy. The quarantine has taken a toll on him and brought up old feelings and habits that may have not been fully resolved.
Brian Austin Green and Meghan Fox in 2014 | Instagram
Beverly Hills 90210 actor Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox shocked the world when they revealed they were ending things after nearly ten years together. Green revealed that he had his ex-wife started growing apart while Fox was abroad filming Midnight in the Switchgrass. Likely it is no coincidence that Fox met her current boyfriend, Machine Gun Kelly, on set of that film.
After each threw shade in the other's direction, Green and Fox figured out how to be amicable during their divorce for the sake of their three children. He addressed their split on his podcast ... With Brian Austin Green saying:
We’ve had an amazing relationship and I will always love her and I know she’ll always love me ... [We said] let’s make sure that we’re always friends with each other and we’re a united front with the kids. We’ll do family vacations and holidays with the family and really make that a focus with the kids.
When asked if he thought he and Fox would ever get back together, Green said he didn't know but mentioned he still had a lot of life to live.
