Terry Gaskill, 59; service May 21
William “Terry” Gaskill, 59, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. A memorial service to honor Terry’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 21st, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Manley Rose Jr. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Severe weather possible on Wednesday and Thursday
There will be daily chances for shower and thunderstorm activity from Wednesday through Friday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office. A few of these storms have the potential to become severe with the greatest risk for severe weather occurring on Thursday. However, there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and location of thunderstorm activity over the next several days.
Cougars cruise past Northern Nash in second round of baseball state playoffs
OCEAN — While you would think a second-round playoff game would be a nail-biter, the Croatan baseball team made it look easy. The Cougars routed Northern Nash 11-1 in a 10-run mercy-rule game Saturday night on their way to their second third-round, state-playoff berth in the last three seasons. The game was pushed to Saturday due to the threat of inclement weather on Friday.
Man facing firearm theft and tampering charges, investigation ongoing
HAVELOCK, Craven County — A Havelock man was arrested on charges of firearm theft and tampering with the serial number on Tuesday, May 7. Havelock law enforcement responded to the area of Cedar Ridge Lane around 1:30 p.m. to try and locate a suspect that reportedly stole a firearm from a residence nearby.
