Consumers Energy says Bay Region customers are seeing faster power restoration

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - New analysis from Consumers Energy says Bay Region customers are now seeing faster power restoration after major storms. After the storm in July, 93% of impacted customers had power back within 24 hours, up from nearly 81% in a similar-sized storm in February and March of 2023, according to the company.

Blendon Township again tables vote on site plan, special use for BESS

BLENDON TWP. — The Blendon Township Planning Commission has again delayed a decision on Key Capture Energy’s proposed Battery Energy Storage System after extensive discussion Oct. 15. Key Capture Energy is seeking special land use approval for the 12-acre development at 8284 88th Ave. The company filed a special land use application for the proposal in August 2025. During a meeting Feb. 10 , commissioners approved exemptions related to the project's shared driveway and parcel size. According to meeting minutes, officials continued to discuss the application without further approvals March 4 . A meeting in April included a decommissioning presentation from KCE, since the project is only expected to last 20-25 years. During a special meeting May 6, Blendon Township Fire Chief Kurt Gernaat listed a number of conditions for KCE covering fire code compliance, required signage, access needs and snow removal.
