Service is attentive without being smothering. Steaks are cooked so well (in quality, not temperature) that you’d be in good hands choosing a humble sirloin over flashier wagyu. You’ll get delicious free bread in droves, roasted garlic mashed potatoes in a massive mound, and a skyscraper-sized carrot cake with an entire pint of ice cream. Just a few blocks from the Third Street Promenade, this French spot from the people behind Bar Monette feels much chiller than the surrounding chaos of Santa Monica’s tourist crowds. And, based on a first visit, it seems best utilized as a calm place to split a cheese plate at the curved bar, sip a glass of wine by candlelight, and call it a night. The over-seasoned share plates lack cohesive flow and are generally expensive for what you’re getting (looking at you, $16 wasabi brussels sprouts and $18 roasted mushrooms). Even the namesake burgers are really just overdone patties hiding under one-too-many scoops of salty gribiche, and lukewarm fries could use a little more cooking time. We’ll check back in soon to try more of the food. Until then, take down the soggy, bland chicken cordon bleu burger at your own discretion, but don't say we didn't warn you.

The Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts recently introduced Chewbacca, nicknamed Chewy, who they describe as a funny fella who loves everyone. “This adorable mutt is built like an oversized Shih Tzu and weighs 25 lbs. Since he was found as a stray and never claimed, we don't know much about his past.” Chewy has a personality as unique as his looks. "He is overly friendly with all, dogs included. He can come on a bit strong but in the kindest way. He wants everyone to be his friend!" states the Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts, who is currently caring for Chewy until he finds his forever home.
