5 Best Restaurants in Canton, Ohio You Need to Try Before Everyone Else Finds Them
Canton, Ohio — a city where the echoes of industry mingle with the laughter of families on porch swings, where the spires of old churches rise above brick streets, and where every block hums with the stories of those who built, dreamed, and stayed. Here, the city’s heart beats in the rhythm of Friday night football, the sizzle of sausage at the Italian Fest, and the hush of snow falling on the Hall of Fame. Canton is a crossroads — of old-timers and newcomers, of artists and laborers, of families who’ve called it home for generations and those just arriving, hungry for possibility.

80-bed recovery center closes at Massillon health hub after 8 months
MASSILLON – A drug and alcohol recovery center operated by Ohio Valley Physicians Health has closed after about nine months inside a revamped health hub. The 80-bed addiction recovery facility opened in February at the Massillon Community Health & Innovation Center , 870 Amherst Road NE, which is the former site of Affinity Medical Center. It shut its doors on Oct. 16 due to apparent medical reimbursement shortfalls. Chris Zimmerman, chief executive officer of Massillon Community Health, said he's working on "a viable replacement" to occupy the former recovery center's space, adding that the process has been encouraging. A phone message left with a representative from OVP on Oct. 28 was not immediately returned. The recovery center was expected to bring in dozens of long-term jobs to Massillon, said Jackie Rebman, director of inpatient behavioral health for OVP, told The Independent in late February. Between $500,000 and $1 million of renovations had been made in preparation for the two-floor, rehab center in early 2026. Biz moves: Massillon residents voice concerns about new data center near school Services offered at the facility included inpatient detox and care, medication for substance disorders; mental health treatment; group, couples and family therapy; overnight care
