    Pair of Varsity 845 graduates, five from New Paltz named to SUNYAC baseball all-star teams

    A pair of Varsity 845 graduates were named to the SUNY Athletic Conference all-star baseball team: Jake Danyluk of Newburgh and Tishawn Featherstone of Port Jervis – both play for SUNY Oswego (23-17).

    Danyluk, a 6-foot-5 senior, posted a 4.54 ERA, fanning 53 batters in 41.2 innings. His best outing was a six-inning, 10-strikeout effort against SUNY Fredonia. A year ago he had a 6.60 ERA. He added eight-strikeout efforts against Swarthmore on March 11 and New Paltz on May 4.

    Featherstone, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, batted .304 with five home runs and 31 RBI. His slugging percentage was .464 and on-base percentage was .388. He had a four-hit game against SUNY Plattsburgh on April 24, and followed with three hits two days later against SUNY Fredonia. He had five RBI in a win over Trinity on March 10. A year ago, Featherstone batted .341 with two homers and 23 RBI.

    Playoff champion SUNY New Paltz had four players named to the first team and one to the second. The Hawks (30-14) open play in the NCAA Division III tournament this weekend.

    Sophomore pitcher Xavier Zykoff of Poughkeepsie; grad student second baseman Michael Boccarossa; junior shortstop Tommy Kreider and sophomore reliever Matt Sarni were named to the first squad.

    Zykoff was 4-1 with a 6.06 ERA in 13 appearances. Kreider led the Hawks with a .458 average, collecting 17 doubles and 34 RBI. Boccarossa was third on the team with a .336 average, leading the way with 44 RBI. Sarni was 4-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 17relief appearances and one start.

    Junior outfielder Michael Ascanio was a second-team pick. He batted .308 with four homers and 38 RBI.
