HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A crash in Hancock County left a motorcyclist dead Thursday night.

According to a press release, members of the New Palestine Police Department and Hancock County Sheriff’s Department were called to the area of US 52 and Creekside Drive around 7:30 p.m. to investigate a crash involving a motorcycle.

HCSD reported that 60-year-old Timothy Bossard of Greenfield died in the crash. Police believe he was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on US 52 near New Palestine and the Hancock-Marion County line shortly before the crash.

The crash happened when the driver of a Cadillac Escalade tried to turn out of a local restaurant’s parking lot to get on US 52. The driver of the Cadillac pulled out in front of Bossard, causing the motorcycle he was riding to strike the driver’s side of the SUV, per HCSD.

Police indicated Bossard was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was transported from the scene of the crash to a local hospital before he was ultimately pronounced dead.

HCSD reported that the driver of the Cadillac was not seriously injured in the crash. The driver voluntarily submitted to a chemical test after the incident, which is routine procedure for fatal crashes.

Deputies do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) also investigated the incident.

A portion of US 52 was closed for three hours while law enforcement team looked into the crash.

HCSD reminds all drivers to be on the lookout motorcycles. Deputies also encourage all motorcyclists to wear helmets while they’re driving.
