It's been an offseason of change for the New Orleans Saints. Their offense, in particular, has seen adjustments on the staff and the roster. The offensive line is the piece of their team with the most questions. Ryan Ramczyk may not play this season - or ever again. They moved on from veteran Andrus Peat. young players must step up.

The Saints OL has had a clear top unit so far in OTAs.

    • LT Fuaga
    • LG Saldiveri
    • C McCoy
    • RG Ruiz
    • RT Penning

The age difference in this projected offensive line is startling. Outside of the two returning starters, the three other projected spots get younger by at least four years, apiece.

Why does it matter? Experience and meshing as a unit are two of the biggest factors for an offensive line.

The Saints like their young players along the OL, but they are anything but proven. You may actually feel the best about Fuaga, the rookie tackle, rather than Saldiveri or Penning. Neither player has stayed healthy during their NFL career so far.

Regardless, it's possible that both of them start.

“Ultimately, our job is to find the best five out there... Come opening day, we’ll go through the process and figure that out.”

    -- Saints HC Dennis Allen

Ramczyk's health is certainly something to monitor, but all signs currently point to plenty of doubt there. As for the guard spot, Oli Udoh is the veteran that could give Saldiveri the most competition off the bat. He's got experience under new OC Klint Kubiak.

The Saints also added interior players Lucas Patrick and Shane Lemieux. They'll compete for depth spots most likely, but both have shown flashes of solid play during their pro careers.

We will see how the starting group shakes out. Plenty for the new offensive staff to figure out in New Orleans.
