At this point, it's probably a pretty safe bet that those who work as TSA agents have probably seen it all. While there are definitely those like me who like to receive their gold star in being an excellent traveler and have the guidelines about what you can and cannot bring on a plane memorized, many, many others are far more lax when they're packing their bags. We've all seen it happen while waiting in that line; people get stopped and questioned about what's in their carry on all the time.
But this particular carry on that we see in this TikTok video is truly on another level! While people travel with their pets all the time, that usually means a dog or a cat — not a crustacean!
On Tuesday, May 7, @unclebubblegum shared a video of a very unexpected sight that he witnessed while waiting to board his plane at his gate at the New Orleans airport: A woman who was bringing her pet crawfish on board with her (and yes, he was alive).
In the video, the woman is wearing sunglasses and sitting with her luggage as her crawfish is standing on top of her pink suitcase. They both appear to be in chill mode — no cares given about whether or not people think her travel buddy is a bit weird!
The people around her are a combination of awestruck and confused, which is basically how I'm feeling watching this video right now.
As it turns out, the woman in the video is Madison, a TikToker who is famous for her love of crawfish (both as animals and food), and she actually posted her own video of her travels with Linda — because of course, the crawfish has a name, why wouldn't she? Not only did she make it through TSA without a problem, but the agent actually told her this happens all the time. What?!
Can You Really Bring Crawfish on a Plane?
This wasn't just a fluke — you actually are allowed to bring live crawfish (or any lie seafood) on a plane, according to the TSA's website.
Straight from the TSA: "Live seafood is permitted in both carry-on and checked bags. If you choose to bring live seafood, we recommend you place your seafood in a separate, ideally clear, container and remove it from the rest of your items for the screening process."
That's what Madison did, and it seemed to work out fine, so I can only imagine that it would work for everyone. Who knew?!
