Ms. Kayla was born on August 15, 1998 and passed away, surrounded by her family, on July 19, 2024. Kayla was a New Kent native and graduate of the NK class of 2020. She loved The Wiggles, classic rock music, wind chimes, scarves, and spending time with her family. To know Kayla was to love her. Her smile would light up the room. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

NEW KENT—Emma Laverne Davis Rose, 91, of New Kent County formerly of Tappahannock, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Rose Sr.; her two children, Lisa L. Rose and John W. Rose, Jr.; two sisters, Elizabeth Pleasants of Highland Springs and Dorothy Cordle of Henrico; and two brothers, Robert “Buster” Davis of Tappahannock and James “Jimmy” Davis of Laneview.

Jury convicts Newport News man for possessing cocaine in New Kent
A Newport News man whose erratic behavior led to his arrest has been convicted by a jury on possession of a Schedule I/II drug. Christopher Delyle Howard, 46, of 51 Poplar Avenue, was convicted of the crime during the July 18 trial. One charge of driving under the influence (second of subsequent offense) was dropped.
