This poem is from the series "Gettysburg Voices: Civil War Poems." Joseph Gustafson received his master's in English from Assumption College and has taught in high schools and colleges for over 20 years. His poems have appeared in The Writer, Yankee, The New York Quarterly, Lake Effect, The New Renaissance, Frogpond, Japanophile, Crosscurrents, Tabula Rasa, Parnassus Literary Journal, The Poetry Peddler, Skylark, Pearl and many others. He is author of seven books of poetry and a novel, "East Side Angels." He taught for many years in the summer programs, State of Maine Writers' Conference, in Ocean Park, Maine, and Cape Cod Writers' Conference in Craigville.
