CarolinaEast celebrates its staff for National Hospital Week

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — Throughout this week and across the nation, people are recognizing hospitals, health systems, and providers as part of National Hospital Week.

In New Bern, Carolina East said that they celebrate their hospital and the people in it every day, and they call it Health Care Week. Michael Smith, CarolinaEast president and CEO, said they have more than 3,000 employees working 24/7 to provide care to more than 400,000 patients, regardless of their ability to pay, across their hospital and clinics. They call themselves the safety net.

“Rain or shine. Hurricanes or beautiful beach days. We’re just one of the health care systems across North Carolina and the country that do that,” said Smith.

CarolinaEast added that they have events planned like bringing treats to employees and a trip to a Wood Ducks game for this week.
