Boiler Girls fall in regional championship game
The Kewanee Boiler Girls were eliminated from postseason play after suffering a loss to Riverdale on Friday in the championship game of the 2A Riverdale Regional. Down 0-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Kewanee fought back and tied the game at 2-2, but the Rams responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning, dashing Kewanee’s hopes of a regional title win.
Baseball Game Preview: Fenton Leaves Home
Fenton is 1-9 against Wheaton Academy since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Fenton Bison will head out on the road to challenge the Wheaton Academy Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Local Young Eagles get a chance to experience ‘the world of flight’
On Saturday, daring youth met with area pilots at the Kewanee Municipal Airport for an opportunity to fly the friendly skies over Kewanee. The flights were offered, as they are each year, by volunteer pilots with Chapter 75, Iowa-Ill. Quad Cities Experimental Aviation Association (EEA). The free flights are all part of the Young Eagles Day, which provides youth an opportunity, maybe for the first time, to go up in an airplane.
