Nevada, Mo. man killed, woman seriously injured in Vernon County crash

VERNON COUNTY, Mo. — A man from Nevada has died and a woman was taken to the hospital by helicopter with serious injuries from a single-vehicle crash just after midnight Saturday.

The accident occurred on East Logan Road half a mile west of Nevada, Missouri at 12:33 a.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, 29-year-old Jarrek Rankin was driving westbound with 27-year-old Caitlin Freeman in a 2014 Chrysler 300 when the vehicle ran off the lift side of Logan Road, hit an embankment, struck a fence and overturned.

Rankin was declared dead by the Vernon County Deputy Coroner at 12:49 a.m. The next of kin have been notified of Rankin’s passing.

Medflight took Freeman to Cox South in Springfield with serious injuries.

This is the 25th fatality for MSHP Troop D in 2024.
