Montesano’s boys team won the team title while Hoquiam’s Jane Roloff had a memorable performance at the 1A Evergreen League Championship meet on Friday in Montesano. Led by three event wins from senior Gabe Bodwell in the high jump, javelin and discus the Bulldogs scored 144 points to beat Elma (122).

Montesano’s season came to an end in a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to Klahowya in the first round of the 1A State Tournament on Tuesday at Klahowya High School. Monte (14-8-1 overall) played through a scoreless first half with the 16th-seed Eagles (14-4-2) and into the second half, where the Bulldogs struck the first blow.
Find the Rare and Endangered Critters of Aberdeen Art Installation
While out and about in Aberdeen, you may have noticed the different animal sculptures scattered about. The Critters of Aberdeen is a project that was created based on fictitious endangered and rare animals in the Grays Harbor area. Forgotten Remnants of Grays Harbor is an organization supposedly was created under a bridge in the 1980s and focused on the preservation of these animals in the area. In truth, these delightful sculptures were created by John and Robin Gumaelius and restored by Douglas C. Orr. The story of each animal was written by Larry Bledsoe.

Montesano senior Hailey Blancas leads the field after the first day of competition at the 1A District 4 Girls Golf Championships on Monday at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course. The Bulldogs senior and defending state champion shot a 1-over par 73 for her 18-hole round, leading Elma sophomore Olivia Moore – last season’s district champion – by eight strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Three people hurt, including two teens, after driver fails to obey stop sign, state patrol says
Two teenage boys and a man from Aberdeen were sent to an area hospital Sunday night after a collision in Grays Harbor County, according to Washington State Patrol. About 9:05 p.m., a 33-year-old woman from Ocean Shores was traveling westbound on Copalis Beach Road where it meets with state Route 109. The other vehicle was traveling northbound on SR 109 when the woman failed to obey the posted stop sign and struck it, troopers say.
Don’t handcuff police from policing
One wonders what people are actually wanting when they parrot phrases like “equitable enforcement” regarding policing. Police already serve and protect all members of the community. “Change the culture of policing” seems to be suggesting police should ignore crime in communities already plagued by incivism and criminal activity.
