Building Destroyed in Friday Night Fire on North Fork Road
No injuries were reported following a fire that destroyed a machine shed on North Fork Road between Napavine and Onalaska Friday night. Crews with Lewis County Fire Districts 5 and 6, as well as the Chehalis Fire Department, responded to the fire at 11:25 p.m. on Friday, March 18, according to Lewis County Fire District 6.
Centralia Police Seek Information on Motorcyclist Who Sped Away From Officer
The Centralia Police Department is seeking information from the public after a motorcyclist sped away from an officer last week, according to a news release. Officers attempted to stop the “dirt-bike style motorcycle” at about 7:10 p.m. Friday, March 17, in the area of East Summa Street and Kresky Avenue, according to the release.

Johnny Cash the Onalaska Rottweiler Deemed ‘Not Dangerous’ by Lewis County Board
A Rottweiler named “Johnny Cash” was unanimously deemed “not dangerous” by the Lewis County Dangerous Animal Designation (DAD) board during a hearing early this month. In the early afternoon of Jan. 8, according to records, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy to respond to a house in the 300 block of Burchett Road in Onalaska. There, a neighbor of Johnny Cash’s owner was being treated by medics for a puncture wound on his tricep inflicted by a dog bite. The victim said a heeler and a Rottweiler had left a neighboring property and that the Rottweiler bit him.

A man found dead Friday afternoon in a portable toilet on the campus of Capital High School in west Olympia has been identified, according to the Thurston County Coroner. LT T. Smith, 41, was found by school staff about 1:15 p.m. Friday. The man had no known address and is suspected of dying from an overdose of drugs, Coroner Gary Warnock said Sunday.

Shots fired, officer stabbed, man died as police tried to arrest accused child rapist in Lewis Co.
Shots were fired, an officer was stabbed and a suspected child rapist died as detectives tried to arrest him in Lewis County on Saturday. Pierce County detectives were in Chehalis at 10:15 a.m. after they had probable cause to arrest a 32-year-old man accused of child rape, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. When detectives found him they radioed that shots had been fired and asked for backup. Chehalis police and other agencies arrived.
Fentanyl Drives Worsening Trend of Overdoses, Deaths, Thurston County Officials Say
Overdose deaths are occurring more frequently than in past years, Thurston County officials told the Board of Health last week, and they are blaming an influx of fentanyl. The number of overdose deaths reached 153 in 2022, Coroner Gary Warnock told the board. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that's 50-100 times strong than morphine, accounted for 114 of those deaths, he said.
