Freeport students will not face discipline for walkout
Students at Freeport High School who peacefully took part in a walkout over concerns involving a personnel matter will not face disciplinary action, Freeport School District 145 said in a community announcement. The district stated that it was aware the some students planned to participate in the walkout Oct. 27 and that it respects students' desire to voice their concerns but cannot disclose details about employee matters because of its legal responsibility to maintain confidentiality. Regular attendance policies will still apply to students who participate in the walkout, the announcement states, and students participating in the walkout will be expected to make up missed work. Classes will remain on schedule for students who do not participate. The district said student and staff safety and well-being remain its highest priorities. School counselors and social workers will be available to students who want someone to talk to.
