Softball-sized hail was reported Tuesday evening to have fallen in Dickinson County while a tornado touched down briefly in Riley County, said Jenifer Prieto, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service office in Topeka. Class 4A Regional’s in baseball and softball begin this week with a few games scheduled for today, but most are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday. Abilene baseball is the number one overall seed in the West and will host number 16 seed Winfield Tuesday at Ted Power Field. This game will be played after number eight Mulvane (16-9) versus number nine Lyons (14-8) which begins at 2 p.m. Chapman (12-10) drew the thirteenth seed and will play number four McPherson at McPherson on Tuesday afternoon.

County puts employee practices into policies
Dickinson County Commissioner approved two new policies for county employees at their May 2 meeting. Both policies, one covering information technology and the other employee compensation, put into writing practices employees were already following, said County Administrator Janelle Dockendorf.

A southeast Kansas teenager appears to be on the move, after she was reported missing in late April. Sylvia Clinton, 17, was last seen on April 23, 2024, in Parsons, Kan. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reports that she may travel about 210 miles northwest of there to Salina or more than 170 miles northwest of there to Herington, Kan.
