Tennessee Vols infielder Christian Moore didn't enter the season as a projected first round selection in the 2024 MLB Draft, but thanks to his strong performance at the plate this season, the New York native appears to be destined to hear his name called in the first round.

The latest mock draft from The Athletic, in fact, has the New York Yankees selecting Moore with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Moore is hitting .377 this season with 24 home runs, 13 doubles, and 23 walks.

From The Athletic : Moore has probably performed his way into the first round, even though the underlying tools and instincts don’t support it. He’s hit 23 homers and has a .380/.446/.774 line (through Monday) as part of the Vols’ loaded lineup, where five hitters already have 15 or more homers. I could also see them on Ryan Waldschmidt or Jordan.

The Athletic's Keith Law noted that the New York Mets, who have the No. 19 overall selection in the 2024 MLB Draft, could also be interested in Moore.

The Mets already have former Vols Drew Gilbert (outfielder) and Blade Tidwell (RHP) in their farm system.

Moore is the only current Vol that's projected as a first round pick. The Athletic has former Vols RHP Chase Burns, who transferred to Wake Forest after the 2023 season, going to the Kansas City Royals with the No. 6 overall pick.
