‘Porch pirate’ accused of stealing $1K worth of packages from South Nashville home

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Police have arrested a man who is accused of stealing at least $1,000 worth of packages from a South Nashville home earlier this month.

According to court documents, the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) received a report on April 8 about a theft that occurred at a home in the 2100 block of Oakland Street.

Authorities reported the victim told officers he had about five packages delivered to his house and were left on the front porch.

Shortly after 5 p.m., on April 8, the home’s video camera captured a man approaching the front door and knocking on it two times, officials said.

The victim told officers the man was seen on camera approaching the door for a third time with a woman accompanying him.

According to MNPD, the man and woman are then seen taking the packages from the front porch and fleeing the scene. The victim told police the items inside the packages are estimated to be valued at least $1,020.

During the investigation, officers said they used video camera footage and two Facebook profiles to help identify the suspect.

The suspect was later identified as 35-year-old Charles Netherton. According an arrest report, he was identified after officers “used the video footage, Facebook profile, the male’s tattoos, and previous arrest history to identify the male suspect as Charles Netherton.”

Netherton was charged with felony theft of mail over $1,000. He remains jailed on a $5,000 bond.
