Local high school football coaching legend passes away

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A local high school football coaching legend has passed away.

Michael W. “Mike” Spencer passed away at age 77 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville on Tuesday.

Spencer’s head coaching career spanned over 30 years with time spent at Tell City, Connersville, Perry Central, Corydon Central and Floyd Central high schools. Spencer spent over two decades at Tell City and the early 2000s at Perry Central.

Spencer guided his teams to nine sectional championships, seven regional championships and two semi-state titles. He was inducted into the Tell City High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Indiana High School Football Hall of Fame.
