Fort Pierce Central football sputters to third straight loss

PORT ST. LUCIE – Lighting delayed the start of the football game between Bishop Verot Catholic High and Fort Pierce Central . A driving rain along with more lightning ended the contest 7 minutes, 41 seconds prematurely. In between, the Cobras had very little spark. The Vikings dominated all three phases in a 42-3 rout of Central on Friday, Oct. 16 at South County Regional Park. In dropping their third straight game, Cobras coach Mike Watkins did not mince words afterwards. “We were bad in every phase of the game,” Watkins said. “Everything was especially bad.” If there was one area that was especially worse, it was the Cobras’ special teams. And it didn’t start that way. After Central won the toss and elected to defer to take the ball in the second half, sophomore defensive lineman Jaxen Alexander recovered the onside opening kickoff. Aided by a roughing the punter penalty, the Cobras got down to the Bishop Verot 15-yard line before Adem Karagic booted a 32-yard field goal to open the scoring. FSU commit named Regional Player of the Year, First-Team All-District

2027 three-star prospect Logan Flaherty, who committed to Florida State back in May, is having a great senior season as a dual-threat quarterback at Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, Florida. He's guided the Pirates to a 4-2 record, and he's also earned some very distinctive honors. Per his social media, Flaherty has been named First-Team All-District by the FACA. Also, he's earned his second consecutive Regional Player of the Year award. "Blessed to be named SWFL regional player of the year back to back ‼️ Congratulations to coach Ingman and the rest of the guys who were nominated first team could not have done it with out y’all but we ain’t done yet ‼️‼️‼️," Flaherty wrote. Flaherty has thrown for 875 yards and five touchdowns to three interceptions in six games. Unleashing a balanced attack on both sides of the ball, the Merathon High football team brought an end to a two-game skid in emphatic fashion with a 42-14 rout of Marco Island behind four touchdown runs from Jesus Gonzalez and a defense that held the Manta Rays to fewer than 250 yards of offense on Friday, Oct. 16, during a trip to the West Coast of Florida. The Dolphins piled up 456 yards of total offense, including 407 on the ground, while their defense kept Marco Island in check to deliver a decisive wins after suffering a one-point heartbreaker defeat the previous week. Marathon needed just four plays to cover 74 yards on its opening possession, with Gonzalez accounting for 50 yards before breaking into the end zone on an 8-yard run.
