Palm Springs reopens Gene Autry Trail; another closure coming
(This story was updated with new information.) Palm Springs reopened North Gene Autry Trail at the wash on Monday, Sept. 21 after a brief closure, but plans to close it again on Tuesday morning. The Palm Springs Police Department said in the morning that the road was closed between East Via Escuela and Salvia Road for sand removal and maintenance. It later said it was open around 3 p.m., but that it would close once again for sand removal and maintenance at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The thoroughfare, a key route to and from Interstate 10, often closes during and after windy weather due to the surrounding desert's sand blowing onto it.
