Four local attorneys interview with County Commission committee to become Sumner's Law Director

A special committee of the Sumner County Commission recently held interviews for the position of County Law Director. The Committee was established to conduct a search for a new law director following the August 2022 elections.

Four area attorneys interviewed for the role. They include Russ Edwards, Eric Sitler, Jason Coleman, and Jim Cochran.

The Committee is expected to make a selection and recommendation to the full commission this month.

Edwards is a Hendersonville attorney who recently ran for a vacant position as a Circuit Judge. While he lost that race, he's now seeking a role serving the county as law director. He currently serves the City of Hendersonville as an alderman representing Ward 3.

Sitler, also of Hendersonville, recently won election to an aldermanic seat in Hendersonville's Ward 1.

During his campaign, Sitler highlighted his qualifications for public service:

As for personal qualifications, I was in the military for 12 years. During that time, I had several leadership positions that required me to manage many people and submit and maintain an operating budget which I was required to work at or under the amount allocated.

Coleman is a Sumner County attorney in general practice. He is an Alabama native and earned his law degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He says he's always felt a call to public service and the County Law Director role would allow him to fulfill this dream.

Cochran is a Tennessee native - born in East Tennessee and now living in Middle Tennessee. He is currently an Administrative Law Judge.
