Miami Beach is not an area that I venture to often. As a "local" now, I tend to avoid the areas with loads of tourists and let's face it, if you're a tourist coming to Miami, the first place you'll think of is Miami Beach. However, there are a few bars which make it worth venturing to, especially after a day of paddle boarding or surfing.

NOTE: This list does not include venues which are primarily known for being a lounge or a club.

Broken Shaker

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 2727 Indian Creek Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33140

$

What's unique? Their mixologists (pre-pandemic) would fly to various locations around the world to appear as guest bartenders. Yea, they're that good.

What's great? Arguably the best drinks in South Florida for an absolute bargain of a price.

What's not great? Nothing....

Tip: It's located inside Freehand Miami, a hostel. Look for it on the corner of 27th, walk inside and head straight through the double doors to access Broken Shaker.

The Scape Goat

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 100 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139

$

What's unique? The only bar in South Florida which specials in American Beer, Wine, and Spirits.

What's great? The speakeasy-esq atmospher.

What's not great? You could walk right by it! Keep an eye out for it.

Tip: Ask for one of their signature drinks.

Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Company

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 237 20th Street, Miami Beach, FL 33139

$$

What's unique? One of the best combinations of crafted cocktail and top-notch bar food/appetizers you'll ever find.

What's great? The low-lit ambiance and prime location in Miami Beach.

What's not great? Nothing.

Tip: Typically known as one of the best bars in Miami, Sweet Liberty won't disappoint.

Lost Weekend

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 218 Espanola Way, Miami Beach, FL 33139

$

What's unique? Legitimate bar games, pretty good pizza, and cheap pitchers of beer.

What's great? The fun atmosphere with a good crowd.

What's not great? It can feel a bit dirty if you're not okay with that sort of thing.

Tip: As a native New Yorker, I'm always looking for venues to escape from the typical Miami vibe and Lost Weekend is one of the best for that. Be sure to get your pizza order in as soon as you start feeling hungry. It can take a while if they're busy.

Mac's Club Deuce

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 222 14th Street, Miami Beach, FL 33139

$

What's unique? A fun local dive bar vibe.

What's great? Close quarters, fun people, and lots of stickers.

What's not great? It can feel very dirty.

Tip: Go to Mac's later on in your adventurous outing.

Swizzle Rum Bar & Drinkery

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 1120 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139

$

What's unique? A wide selection of rum, hence the name.

What's great? The drink and food service!

What's not great? It can feel dark... because it is!

Tip: Another dark speakeasy vibe with good prices.

Monty's Sunset

Neighborhood: Miami Beach

Address: 300 Alton Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139

$

What's unique? Located right on the water!

What's great? The party atmosphere.

What's not great? Don't go if you're looking for a very casual drink.

Tip: You'll likely have to valet your car if you drive. Drink responsibly!
